Decision Making in the Railways: Rebuilding of Station Utrecht

May 12, 2015 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Speaker
Femke Bekius

Abstract
In this talk I will give an outline of the decision making process regarding the rebuilding of Utrecht Central Station and introduce the role logic could play in this process. ProRail, the Dutch railway infrastructure manager, has set a goal to increase the capacity of the infrastructure with 50% by 2020 as a challenge. To achieve this goal the flow-through station Utrecht has to be optimized. Therefore, the project DSSU (DoorStroomStation Utrecht; flow-through station Utrecht) was launched. I will discuss crucial points in the DSSU decision making process, such as the change of vision on railways, decreasing flexibility and safety issues. The aim of this talk, after explaining the real-world case, is to discuss together with the audience about how, which and where logic can contribute to this decision making process.
